SEC patrons review secondary teacher and student artwork

The Art Education Program and the Student Exhibition Center at Missouri State University will host a Statewide Juried Art Exhibition for secondary school teachers and their students. This exhibition will showcase selected works from teachers and students who represent the talent from all areas of the state. The goal of the exhibition is to give teachers an opportunity to participate in a competitive, juried exhibition, and inspire young artists by providing a platform for their work to be displayed in a college venue.

Eligibility

All practicing, certified secondary art teachers and all secondary school students (grades 6 through 12) who reside in Missouri are eligible.

Submission Requirements

Each teacher may submit one or two pieces of artwork (one detail image per piece if needed). According to the jury, one or both may be selected. Please note that this is a juried show; entries are not guaranteed acceptance.

  • Selected faculty will have the opportunity to submit three of their exceptional student works from the current school year.
  • There are no fees associated with submission.

How to Submit Artwork

  • Artwork must be submitted via email as a PowerPoint presentation to Steve Willis at  SteveWillis@MissouriState.edu. The first page of the PowerPoint will have the artist’s contact information (name, address, telephone, email). The second and third will have one image on each page with details of the image (size, media, date)
  • Media: Paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, photographs, computer- generated art, digital media and mixed media artwork that meets the following specifications are eligible for submission.
  • Two-dimensional work must not exceed 36” X 36”. Three-dimensional work must not exceed 16” X 16” X 36”.
  • Work must be able to be displayed for the duration of the exhibition. All two-dimensional works must be ready to hang; matted or raw (artwork should not be framed). All pastel and charcoal drawings must be sprayed with fixative. All three-dimensional works must be structurally sound with any components securely fastened.

Jurors

Submissions will be selected by a jury of MSU faculty members.

Awards

First, second, and third-place winners will be selected,

  • 1st - $100
  • 2nd - $75
  • 3rd - $50

Sales

Work in this exhibition will not be for sale. However, contact information may be given to inquiries if desired.

Shipping/Delivery

All selected works must be hand delivered or shipped to the Student Exhibition Center at 838 E. Walnut St., Springfield, MO 65806

All shipping costs, including return shipping, are the responsibility of the artists/ participating schools.

2018 Schedule & Deadlines

September 14:  Entry Deadline

October 1: Notification of Acceptance

October 20-27: Delivery of Work (Installations must be delivered/installed Oct. 27.)

November 1-16: Duration of Exhibition

November 2: First Friday Art Walk Reception (Awards announced.)

November 17, 19-20: Pick up/Return Delivery of Work
